Thank you notes from soldiers

“It is nice to know that people outside our families take the time to think about us. The soldiers always look forward to packages, so we take the time to see who is down (in spirits) and give them the honor to open the packages for all of us.” -- SFC Raul Rodriguez, Shops Platoon out of Fort Hood’s 4ID 404th Aviation Support Battalion.

Helping hand
Here is a list of needed supplies for care packages for Fort Hood. Also, the Adopt-A-Unit Committee relies on donations to pay for shipping and support of families of deployed soldiers. Make check

Councilmember Rufus Honeycutt gets in the middle of a group hug with Fort Hood’s Family Readiness Group leaders, who coordinate support for deployed soldiers’ families.donations payable to "Round Rock Adopt-A-Unit." Bring care package items and monetary donations to City Hall, 221 E. Main, third floor. Also, here's tips for preparing baked goods to mail overseas.

Round Rock's participation in Adopt-a-Unit Program
The City of Round Rock and Round Rock Chamber of Commerce have committed to supporting the 4ID’s 404th Aviation Support Battalion, which includes approximately 800 soldiers charged with holding the Army Aviation (helicopter) assets for the Division, and sustaining and maintaining aircraft, ground vehicles and communication.

Round Rock’s partnership is part of a broader Williamson County movement, spearheaded by U.S. Congressman John Carter in conjunction with the Central Texas-Fort Hood Chapter of the Association of the United States Army. Round Rock Mayor Alan McGraw and LTC Dave George, 404th Aviation Support Battalion Commander, exchange gifts just before troop deployment.

Many businesses, organizations, churchs and civic clubs have joined the effort, mailing care packages to our "adopted" soldiers and planning events and other support for their families back home.

To learn more about our "adopted" Battalion or how you can participate, contact Jill Goodman or call (512) 218-5403.

“The soldiers are very encouraged by your positive response. The care packages sent forward are exactly the type of encouragement needed to carry on through this time of separation from their family and their friends. Everyone is extremely excited about Operation Fairytale, and we are all thankful for the quick response and amount of donated books. Your donation represents to us the kindness and caring that run deep in our community…” -- Family Readiness Group leadership, 404th Aviation Support Battalion
