Because recent rains have filled Lake Georgetown to capacity, the City of Round Rock has lifted its mandatory once-weekly water restrictions on March 26. The City is encouraging its utility customers to follow the twice-weekly voluntary watering schedule.

Last year’s drought and heat wave, coupled with a pump failure in the City’s water supply system, necessitated the move to mandatory restrictions beginning last October. While Central Texas remains in a drought, the crisis that led to the mandatory once-weekly restrictions has passed.

“Lake Georgetown is full and our supply system is fully operational, so we are lifting the mandatory restrictions,” Utility Director Michael Thane said. “But our customers need to remember we were about in the same position last year at this time. The weather can and will change and mechanical systems can fail, so we need to use this limited natural resource wisely.”

Stage 2 – Mandatory conservation measures in place (customers must follow watering schedule during designated water times, some restrictions on outdoor uses of water, such as washing vehicles).
Stage 2 Triggers: If Lake Georgetown drops below 770 ft and Lake Stillhouse Hollow drops below 593 ft, and the water table drops to 40 feet above our Well No. 4 pump. Stage 2 can also be triggered if demand reaches 90 percent of system capacity for three consecutive days.

Stage 3 – Stricter mandatory conservation measures in place (hand-watering of lawns only during schedule times, no washing of vehicles, no establishment of landscape, filling of pools prohibited, etc.)
Stage 3 Triggers: If Lake Georgetown drops below 765 feet and Lake Stillhouse Hollow drops below 574, and if the water table at Well 4 drops to 35 feet above pump.  Stage 3 can also be triggered if demand reaches 95 percent of system capacity for three consecutive days.

City Manager or Utilities Director can call for Stage 2, Stage 3 or emergency restrictions at any time they deem necessary (example: pump failure at lake intakes, water main break, etc.).
