Phone scam falsely uses police phone number on caller ID
Round Rock Police have been made aware of a telephone scam wherein the caller advised there were outstanding warrants out of Round Rock the victim needed to pay or they would be arrested. The caller said there would be a discount if payment was made immediately over the phone using a credit card.
The victim’s caller ID listed 218-5500 – which is the main phone number for the Round Rock Police Department. The caller had a very strong Middle East accent.
Round Rock police remind the public to never give their credit card information over the phone to anyone.
