Black History Month Schedule
February is Black History Month and the Round Rock Black History Month Organization, the Round Rock Public Library and the Round Rock Arts Council are teaming up to present a series of events to celebrate black heritage in our area.
Movie: Soul Food Junkies
As part of the Community Cinema project, the Round Rock Public Library will host the film Soul Food Junkies by Bryon Hurt at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 in meeting room B. The event is free and all are welcome.
Photo exhibit: Scenes of Everyday Life
The Round Rock Public Library will also be hosting the photo exhibit “Scenes from Everyday Life: Black History in Texas” during February in the Library Gallery. An opening reception for the exhibit will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7 at the Library.
A Walk with the Stars – Sweetheart Banquet
The A Walk with the Stars – Sweetheart Banquet will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Baca Center. The banquet will feature dinner, live entertainment by Sonia Moore Band and door prizes. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at the Round Rock Public Library.
Historic Places Bus Tour
Visit historic places in Round Rock and Georgetown with a bus tour from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16. Tickets are $12, and include light breakfast and lunch. For information, contact Jessie Carson at 512-567-2148.
Round Rock ISD Celebration
The Round Rock ISD holds its Black History Month celebration at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Round Rock ISD Performing Arts Center, 5720 McNeil Road, Austin.
Movie: The Powerbroker: Whitney Young’s Fight for Civil Rights
The Round Rock Public Library will host the film The Powerbroker: Whitney Young’s Fight for Civil Rights at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 in meeting room B.
African-American Art Exhibit
Round Rock Arts will exhibit African-American art throughout February at ArtSpace in downtown Round Rock.
