Allen Banks hired as Round Rock’s new Police Chief
21-year police veteran has been serving as Interim Chief in Albuquerque, N.M.

City Manager Steve Norwood
announced Tuesday he has selected Allen Banks to be Round Rock’s next Police Chief. Banks, currently Interim Police Chief in Albuquerque, N.M., will replace Tim Ryle, who is retiring in February.

“I’m really excited for Allen to join our team,” Norwood said. “His experience, attitude and values are a great fit for the department and the City.”

Banks has spent his entire 21-year career with the Albuquerque Police Department, starting as a patrol officer in 1992. During his tenure in Albuquerque he had responsibility for the Field Services – the largest division in the department – as well as Support Services, which includes SWAT, DWI Units, Records, Payroll, and more. He also ran Internal Affairs and the Criminal Nuisance Abatement Unit as a Lieutenant, and served as a Shift Watch Commander for the busiest sector of the City.

He has served as Interim Chief since August 2013 after the chief retired. He was promoted to Deputy Chief in 2009. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has a bachelor’s degree from Wayland Baptist University.

“I would like to thank the City of Round Rock for the opportunity to be its next Chief,” Banks said. “I’m looking forward to moving my family to the community and being an active part of the community. I’m excited about the future of the Round Rock Police Department and working with the men and women there.”

Banks is married and has three children. He is expected to begin work in Round Rock in early March.
