City wins six awards for communications, marketing

The City of Round Rock won four first place TAMI Awards, one second and one third at the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO) conference last week in Richardson.

Multimedia Specialist Brian Ligon produced three first-place entries and one second place entry.

The first place awards were for:

  • Best Public Service Announcement-Education (population over 80,000) for "Talking Trees with the Round Rock Fire Department." The PSA used a light-hearted approach to deliver a serious message about Christmas tree safety.
  • Best Public Service Announcement-Marketing (population over 90,000) for the detective-noir themed Library Mystery Night promotion.
  • Best Special or One-Time Program (population 80,000-200,000) for a video explaining the four propositions on the ballot for the 2013 bond election.
  • Best Use of Promotional Item for custom coasters created to help promote the Dia de los Muertos event in downtown last October. The coasters, featuring the event logo, were distributed to bars and restaurants downtown.

“Competition against our Texas peers is tough, so winning four first place trophies is a real accomplishment,” Communications Director Will Hampton said. “The videos produced by Multimedia Specialist Brian Ligon are simply amazing, and the downtown businesses really appreciated the coasters we distributed to promote the successful Dia de los Muertos event last October.”

The City earned a second place award for Video Regular or Recurring Program (population 100,000 and above) for our WaterWise series on water conservation. The series features Conservation Specialist Jessica Woods showing residents various ways to conserve water.

You can watch the videos on the City of Round Rock YouTube channel at youtube.com/cityofroundrock.

The City earned a third place award for Internal Communications for its employee newsletter, Rock Beats. The bi-weekly newsletter is distributed electronically and in paper form to the City’s 900-plus employees.
