Tom Word, P.E. Chief of Public Works Operations

Tom Word has served as Chief of Public Works Operations since April 2003. Word began working with the City in November 1996 as the City’s Traffic Engineer overseeing all transportation planning, engineering and project implementation as well as street, drainage and fleet maintenance.

Word currently oversees the Utilities, Transportation Services and Engineering and Development Services departments. As Chief of Public Works Operations, Word is responsible for the day-to-day operations of all three departments’ functions and activities. In addition, he oversees all Capital Improvement Program project planning and coordination for the City.

Mr. Word holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.  He is also a registered professional engineer in Texas.
