2010 Census

The Census is a count taken every 10 years of everyone residing in the US: all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Island Areas. Census data are used to distribute states' Congressional seats, to make decisions about what communtiy services to provide, and to distribute $300 billion in federal funds to local, state and tribal governments each year.
Your participation in the Census is required by law, and the personal information you share is also protected by federal law. The 2010 Census will be a short-form only census and takes less than 10 minutes to complete (view sample questionnaire). People should be counted where they live and sleep most of the year. The questions ask you to provide information that is accurate for your household as of April 1, 2010.
The Census Bureau will mail or deliver questionnaires to your home in March 2010. A second form will be mailed to households that do not respond. Households that still do not respond will be called or visited by a Census worker.
