Course Description: This is a Governor’s Division of Emergency Management class and being hosted in Round Rock. This 24-hour advance-level course is for fire service, rescue, fire prevention, safety personnel, and personnel responsible for hazardous waste cleanup operations. The course presents the purpose for air monitoring, properties and toxicity of hazardous materials. In addition, the course will cover detection of toxic gases, operations of the Explosimeter[1], oxygen meters, use of colorimetric tubes and laboratory instruments. Field exercises will be conducted with students using instruments and techniques learned during instruction.

Radiological Emergency Preparedness Course
Dates: Jan. 26, 27, or 28, 2010 (8 hour class, three days to choose from).
Course Description: Performance based (hands-on) course is designed for personnel selected as emergency first responders to a radiological incident. Topics include a review of radiation fundamentals, biological effects of ionizing radiation, radiation detection instruments, survey techniques, radiological protective actions, decontamination procedures, radiological hazards, radiological terrorist threats and first responder’s actions. This course is EMS and TCLEOSE credited.

Fire Instructor I Class
Dates: Feb. 1-5, 2010. (40 Hour Class)
Course Description: Per Texas Commission on Fire Protection Standards Manual for Fire Protection Personnel. Meets all TCFP qualification to prepare students for the Fire Instructor I state test. Must have 3 years of Fire Service Experience to take state test.

Clandestine Drug Lab Class
Date: Feb. 12, 2010
Course Description: This is a Governor's Division of Emergency Management Class that is being hosted in Round Rock. The course content includes Clandestine Drug Lab Operations, Personal Protective Equipment, Emergency response roles and responsibilities, scene documentation and case studies.

TEEX Principals of Building Construction: Non Combustible (NFA)
Dates: Feb. 16, 17, or 18, 2010. (8-hour class, three days to choose from).
Course Description: This course introduces the special characteristics of non-combusaible and fire resistive construction as it relates to the firefighting profession. Fire Officers improve their ability to ensure firefighter safety by recognizing common causes and indicators of failure and other hazards related to building construction or contents. This course enables Fire Officers to better predict the overall reaction of a building to fire conditions. This is a National Fire Academy (NFA) Course.

NFA Chemistry of Hazardous Materials
Dates: Feb. 22-Mar. 5, 2010. (80 hour course)
Course Description: This is a Governor's Division of Emergency Management Class that is being hosted in Round Rock. This 80-hour advanced level course is intended for individuals assigned to a Hazardous Materials Response Team, Toxicologist, Law Enforcement, Industrial Hygenist, OEM staff, and other emergency response fields. This course includes and introduction to Haz-Mat Chemistry, salts and oxidizers, non-salts and hydrocarbons, hydrocarbon derivatives, basics of fire, force at play, combustion, hazard classes, supplemental materials and transportation of chemicals.
