Donations for Ft. Hood troops welcome at Christmas Family Night
"Mission: Morale" will be collecting donations during Christmas Family Night in downtown Round Rock on Friday, Dec. 10.
Mission: Morale needs donations of individual size toiletries such as soap, shampoo and conditioner, shaving cream, deodorant, mouthwash, moist towlettes and toothpaste. The troop also enjoys sunflower seeds, hard candies and phone cards. Please no pork products and no perishable items. Monetary donations are welcome but are not tax deductible.
Unable to attend Christmas Family Night? Donations can be taken directly to the Chamber of Commerce, located at 212 East Main Street, through Dec. 31.
“It is nice to know that people outside our families take the time to think about us. The soldiers always look forward to packages, so we take the time to see who is down (in spirits) and give them the honor to open the packages for all of us.” -- SFC Raul Rodriguez, Shops Platoon, Fort Hood’s 4ID 404th Aviation Support Battalion
Round Rock’s “adopted” soldiers in the 404 Aviation Support Battalion out of Ford Hood are deployed to Afghanistan expected to return in summer 2011.
The City of Round Rock and Round Rock Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with many organizations and businesses in Round Rock, provided support to the Battalion for their deployment to Iraq in 2008-10.
Our troops dedicated a tree to the Round Rock community partners and sponsors at Meadow Lake Park in appreciation for boosting morale during their 2008-10 tour in Iraq.
Mayor Alan McGraw calls upon the community to participate in supporting our troops.
History of the Adopt-a-Unit Program
The City of Round Rock and Round Rock Chamber of Commerce have committed to supporting the 4ID’s 404th Aviation Support Battalion, which includes approximately 800 soldiers charged with holding the Army Aviation (helicopter) assets for the Division, and sustaining and maintaining aircraft, ground vehicles and communication.
Round Rock’s partnership is part of a broader Williamson County movement, spearheaded by U.S. Congressman John Carter in conjunction with the Central Texas-Fort Hood Chapter of the Association of the United States Army.
Many businesses, organizations, churchs and civic clubs have joined the effort, mailing care packages to our "adopted" soldiers and planning events and other support for their families back home.
“The soldiers are very encouraged by your positive response. The care packages sent forward are exactly the type of encouragement needed to carry on through this time of separation from their family and their friends. Everyone is extremely excited about Operation Fairytale, and we are all thankful for the quick response and amount of donated books. Your donation represents to us the kindness and caring that run deep in our community…” -- Family Readiness Group leadership, 404th Aviation Support Battalion
