The Clay Madsen Recreation Center offers a variety of instructional classes for toddlers and youth. Listed below is a summary of toddler and youth instructional classes:
Austin Society of Karate
Austin Society of Karate offers the following classes for ages 3 Years – 12 years:
Little Ninjas: This program is specifically designed to teach the important qualities of respect, self-control, and confidence. Your child will have fun while improving motor skills, coordination and social skills.
Martial Arts: Instructors will teach American Karate with an emphasis on self-defense, self-esteem, and self-confidence.
Epic Hip Hop & Cardio
Epic Hip Hop Classes are a great way to be active using dance moves, fun music, active and upbeat routines. Classes include Hip Hop Kidz for ages 6 – 10 Years.
Learn the Olympic sport of fencing in this class for all ages. The skills of modern day sword play, such as footwork, blade work and strategy, will be learned through exercises, games and open sparring. All equipment is provided but every participant must wear long pants, athletic shoes and a t-shirt.
Kinderdance is the original nationwide dance, motor development, gymnastics, and fitness program that combines academic readiness skills designed for children ages 2 to 8. Heather Hardesty, owner of Kinderdance has danced since age 3 and has more than 15 years of teaching experience. All Kinderdance teachers have a dance background and experience with children. Kinderdance offers the following classes:
Kindertots: This first movement class is full of fun and excitement. Participants will work on their coordination, gross motor skills, and physical development while learning the joy of dance. Familiar nursery rhyme songs are used as well as other original music. As the participants progress, they will learn dances to some of their favorite tunes.
Kinderdance Level I & II: This beginning ballet and tap class is the perfect class if you have a budding dancer who puts on a performance for you at home. The basics of ballet and tap are covered in an age appropriate and fun way. Students will learn a movement vocabulary that compliments the skills they are learning in class. Level II is for the dancer who has had 1 year of Kinderdance Level 1 or has taken at a studio. Ballet and tap technique will be built on previous knowledge of the basics. Students will begin to piece together combinations that will challenge them to alternate movement from one leg to another and to execute a skill in multiple directions.
Kindergym: Kindergym is a development floor gymnastics program with emphasis on fun, social and gross motor development, physical fitness and movement education while learning numbers, colors, shapes, and words. Gymnasts learn how to tumble, do individual tricks and execute skills on the balance beam.
Teams of Tomorrow (TOT)
A unique program that focuses on individual sport skills taught through fun, choreographed music. Gross and fine body movements are incorporated through fun games and activities. Ages 3 – 5 Years.
Touchdown Tots/Kids is leading the way in youth football development for boys & girls ages 3-8. This program offers an age-appropriate, high-energy introduction to our country’s most popular game – football! The dynamic curriculum is safe, non-aggressive, child-focused, and introduces your child to foundational football skills while incorporating FUN! The focus is on increasing athletic ability, balance, coordination, leadership, and confidence – more about the fun of football and less about the competition. No real contact, pads, helmets or flags – all children, boys and girls, can safely enjoy Touchdown Tots/Kids!
Monkey Monkey Yoga
Learning yoga at an early age encourages body awareness and appreciation of one's surroundings. Physically, it enhances flexibility, strength and coordination as well as aids concentration and a sense of calmness. In short, yoga is great for mind and body health, plus a terrific way for children to stay fit and healthy throughout their lives. Angela Richter-Gronross is Registered Yoga Teacher at the 200 hr level and a Level 3 Radiant Child Yoga Instructor. Soccer Shots is a program to introduce children to soccer. In addition to learning soccer, the kids will be encouraged in group and team play fundamentals, active lifestyle habits, strong character skills and more! Soccer will be used to teach lifelong lessons including positive attitude, enthusiasm, listening skills, teamwork, sportsmanship and creativity! Classes offered for ages 3 – 5 Years.
Clay Madsen Recreation Center offers swim lessons during the Fall & Spring Season. We proudly use the American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim Program and offer classes from Level 1 to Level 5. In addition we offer classes for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and adults.
Clay Madsen Recreation Center offers a variety of tennis programs for ages 4-14. Tennis programs offered include:
Junior Beginner: In the junior beginner class, participants will learn all basic skills and etiquette including grip, stance, stroke mechanics, and simple strategy to play the game of tennis.
Junior Ralliers: This class is for the young player that has the ability to rally on the court and wants to start preparing for a more competitive tennis game!
Quickstart I/II: The Quickstart program is a new initiative of the USTA designed to have participants rallying and loving the game while they learn to have fun. It features slower bouncing balls, shorter racquets and smaller courts. Classes for ages 5 to 10 Years.
Adult Instructional Classes

Austin Society of Karate

Adult Martial Arts: Austin Society of Karate instructors will teach American Karate with an emphasis on self-defense, self-esteem, and self-confidence.
A variety of cooking classes are offered to learn tips and tricks for your kitchen. Classes include healthy recipes, cooking for one, and more. Cooking classes are for ages 18 Years and older.
Learn the basics of Spanish in our language leaning and development classes. Classes include Spanish for the workplace, Conversational Spanish and more.

Adult Tennis Clinics: This exciting clinic is for all adult players of all levels with lots of fast paced drills and detailed instruction for players that look for that special edge over their opponent.
Beginner Tennis: In the adult beginner class a comfortable approach is used to teach basic grip, stance, stroke mechanics and simple strategy.
