About the Historic Preservation Commission
The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) preserves, protects, and promotes the City of Round Rock's historical resources through preservation, public education, community partnerships, and heritage tourism.  Its preservation responsibilities include issuing Certificates of Appropriateness for proposed changes to historic properties, and making recommendations for historic designations and historic policy and programs to the City Council

The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) preserves, protects, and promotes the City of Round Rock's historical resources, as given in its adopted goals:  

  • Preservation: Continue efforts to increase the number of historic designations within the community and maintain a close watch over the historic integrity of Historic Overlay properties.
  • Public Education: Increase public awareness of historic preservation and the history of Round Rock.
  • Heritage Tourism: Work with the Chamber of Commerce and the Convention and Visitors Bureau to improve tourism through historic preservation.
  • Community Partnerships: Establish partnerships with business and community organizations supporting preservation efforts. Strengthen ties with state and county historical commissions.

Membership & Qualifications
HPC members are appointed by the City Council  The five regular and one alternate members of the Historic Preservation Commission serve staggered two-year terms.  Members should have some expertise in architecture, history, archaeology, planning or community design.  Members must be eligible voters and have been residents of Round Rock for at least twelve months.
