July 2010 -- New Development Services Office opens
Print

The City of Round Rock created the Development Services Office (DSO) to streamline and consolidate the development review process. The DSO is the first stop to begin the development process and where businesses will submit subdivision, plat and site development permit applications. From pre-submittal to project closeout, representatives in the DSO will assist in expediting development projects.

We pride ourselves on ensuring projects are handled in a professional, timely, consistent and accurate manner. Our goal is to build a partnership with developers and their consultants. We want projects to succeed and we’ll do our very best to ensure that happens within the parameters of City Council adopted policies.

Please do not hesitate to contact a Development Services Office Manager – David Freireich, P.E., (512) 671-2756 or Brad Wiseman, AICP, (512) 341-3321 – at any point in the development process. We welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns.

The DSO is located on the first floor of the McConico building, 301 W. Bagdad Ave., Suite 140. Our office is directly across the hall from the Municipal Court.

We’ll host an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12. Stop by and say hello if you haven’t already had the opportunity to visit us at the new office.

Process improvements

The DSO accepts site development permit applications on any day during normal business hours. Previously, preliminary site plans, full site development plan submittals and re-submittals had to be submitted on a Monday. We believe this change will shorten the overall development process and allow applicants to receive their permits quicker.

The DSO has replaced the Short Cycle Review process with the Abbreviated Submittal Approval Process (ASAP). Instead of providing final plans for review on a Monday and waiting until Friday for an approval, applicants can call and schedule a meeting. The DSO will resolve any last minute issues in that meeting and issue the approval. Staff will schedule this meeting ASAP once a request has been made.

DSO staff believes that increased dialogue results in fewer submittals and, in turn, a quicker approval. That’s why we’ve implemented a comment review meeting. This meeting will be held after comments have been issued on the first full set of plans. We still encourage phone calls, meetings and emails throughout the process, but believe this is an important time to meet.

During predevelopment meetings, there will be a staff member dedicated to recording action minutes of the meeting. After the meeting, staff will compare notes and forward the minutes to the applicant. If there appears to be miscommunication, or an item is omitted, just let us know and we’ll get it resolved and send the applicant an update.

For more information about these process improvements, please refer to the updated Site Development Packet (PDF).

Development Services Office contacts

We’d like to introduce our team. Each staff member has specific job duties relative to their education and work experience. The contact information for DSO staff and their responsibilities are identified below. The DSO Managers are the principal point of contact to resolve concerns, and ensure a well-coordinated and efficient process. Please note that Building and Construction Inspections and the Fire Department remain in their existing locations.
