As of April 2012, the City of Round Rock has 12,566 automatic meters installed throughout the City. The plan is to continue to update all water meters in Round Rock to this new technology over the next 3 years.
The new meters are read wirelessly by a truck driving through each neighborhood with the meters installed. Ultimately, a fixed network will be put in place so the meters will be able to be read at any time without the need for a truck to be in the immediate area.
This technology allows the City to read meters quickly and accurately and reduce the number of staff necessary to track water usage throughout Round Rock. It will also allow our customers to see their water use in real-time and monitor their water usage.
