The Round Rock Police Department offers a competitive package of benefits and incentives for employees.

Salary Information
The Department offers a comprehensive and highly competitive compensation package. Besides a very competitive salary (PDF), officers are eligible for extra pay incentives that could add up to an additional $7,440.

  • Cadet starting salary is $17.88 hrly
  • Officer starting salary is $49,595
  • Lateral starting salary is $58,146*

*Lateral Entry must have 4 years of prior Law Enforcement experience (subject to approval).

Police Officer Incentives

Assigned Vehicle
After successfully completing the Field Training Officer portion of training, an Officer is assigned a full Police Package Vehicle. All officers living within the city limits or ETJ of Round Rock, Texas are authorized to drive their vehicle to and from their place of residence. 

Uniform/Equipment
Uniforms and dry cleaning services are provided by the department. Regulation service weapon, duty gear and all other necessary equipment included. Officers assigned to investigation positions requiring civilian attire are eligible to receive a Clothing Allowance of $600 annually.

Education Pay
Police officers who have degrees, will receive the following additional pay incentive. Officers will be paid for only one degree at the highest academic level obtained.

  • Master’s degree $320 per month ($3840 annually)
  • Bachelor’s degree $240 per month ($2880 annually)
  • Associate’s degree and or 60 credit hours $125 per month ($1500 annually)

Certification Pay
Police Officers who have a Master Peace Officer Certification will receive the following additional pay incentive.

  • Master Peace Officer Certification $90 per month ($1,080 annually)

Officers will either be paid for Certification Pay or Education Pay.

Physical Fitness Pay
Police Officers who pass the Physical Ability Course may be eligible to receive the following additional pay incentive.

  • Physical Fitness $100 per month ($1,200 annually)

Specialty Pay
Police Officers who are eligible may receive the following additional pay incentive. 

  • Collision Reconstruction -- $50 per month ($600 annually)
  • Drug Recognition Expert -- $50 per month ($600 annually)
  • Paramedic -- $50 per month ($600 annually)
  • Hostage Negotiator -- $50 per month ($600 annually)
  • S.W.A.T. -- $50 per month ($600 annually)
  • LCC/FBI NA -- $50 per month ($600 annually)
  • Field Training Officer -- $200 per month ($2,400 annually)

Bilingual Pay
Police officers who want to participate in the bilingual pay must pass an oral examination, written examination or both in the particular language.

  • Level l oral exam -- $100 per month ($1,200 annually)
  • Level ll oral and written exam -- $200 per month ($2,400 annually)

Insurance
Medical, and life insurance coverage is provided for all probationary/permanent employees of the City. Short-term disability, dental, vision and  life insurance is also offered. Spouse and eligible dependents may be included in these plans. All insurance options will be explained at a new employee orientation shortly after an employee starts work.

Retirement Plan Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS)
The City participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS). Both the Employee and the City contribute into the system which pays lifetime benefits in accordance with the plan. 

Education Tuition Reimbursement
Up to $2,000 in education assistance per year with a 2-year commitment with each pay out. This benefit is dependent on available funds and may vary.

Paid Leave

Sick Leave
Full-time employees accrue sick time at a rate of 8 hours per month maximum of 720 hours annually. Unused sick time is carried forward from year-to-year.
