The City of Round Rock will hold an Open House to present preliminary information and receive public input regarding the Railroad Quiet Zone project from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the Baca Center, 301 W. Bagdad Ave., Building 2.

The meeting is a come-and-go format; there will be no formal oral presentations made.

About the project
The purpose of the Quiet Zone project is to make necessary safety improvements to six public at-grade highway-rail crossings along the Union Pacific Railroad’s mainline so that train operators will not be required to sound their horns. 

The crossings included in this project are:

• County Road 172 at McNeil Road
• Saint Williams Street at McNeil Road
• Both IH-35 frontage roads at McNeil Road
• S. Burnet Street at Park Lane
• Red Bud Lane at U.S. Highway 79

The project does not include the crossings on RM 620 at Chisholm Trail Road and on Sam Bass Road at Wonder Drive.

City transportation staff with the assistance of consulting engineers from Brown & Gay Engineers and Campbell Technology Corporation will be available to answer questions and receive comments from Round Rock residents and other interested parties.
