Janette Johnston of the Round Rock Public Library will be offering a series of Every Child Ready to Read workshops for parents and care-givers to learn how to teach children pre-reading skills. Free Continuing Education (1 hour) will be given for those attendeding.
The first workshop will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, for parents and care-givers of children from birth to two-years, or the early talker group.
The remaining workshops will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18 and Wednesday, March 31.
Current research on early literacy and brain development indicates that it is never too early to prepare children for success as readers. Parents of newborns, toddlers and preschoolers serve a critical role as their children's first teacher. The Every Child Ready to Read Ealy Literacy Inititiative is a program developed by The American Library Association, the Association for Library Service to Children, and the National Institute of Child Health & Human Development.
