The Hope Alliance, in partnership with the Round Rock Public Library, is excited to present the art exhibit “Words of Hope” at the Round Rock Public Library Gallery, April 2-23.
Please join us in the Library for an opening reception from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5.
About the exhibit
Every piece of art will be created by survivors of domestic and sexual violence who are currently staying at the Hope Alliance in shelter as well as women who attend the Heart group and are making great strides to recovery with the support of Hope Alliance.
Hope Alliance’s Housing Specialist, Ms. Charmaine Scott, will offer the clients a therapeutic way to display their individual growth by asking each of them to paint a canvas or an object using the words of hope that flow from their own heart.
Each survivor will receive a previously painted canvas or an unusual object such as a globe/doll/lamp shade that can be used as a canvas. Each artist will place her words artistically on the canvas of choice. They will then paint over these words, and in the last step – strip the words off of the canvas – displaying the “old beauty” unfolding into a “new beauty with hope.”
The words that are chosen will be displayed artistically and will be created in way as to show the personality of each survivor.
