How does the freedom to read, speak, and think effect your life? During Banned Books Week, join your Round Rock Public Library in thinking about and discussing these issues.
Banned Books Week Film Festival:
On Monday Sept. 25, 7:00, see Inherit the Wind, directed by Stanley Kramer and starring Spencer Tracy. This film tells the story of a teacher tried at the famous Scopes Trial for teaching evolution.
On Thursday Sept. 28, 6:30, see the sci-fi classic 2001: A Space Odyssey, directed by Stanley Kubrick. This film has not been banned, but it is controversial. It depicts human development as being caused by a mysterious black slab.
All Week Long: See the large display across from the circulation desk, and learn about what can happen to a controversial book. It defines different levels of blocking access, from challenging, to restricting, to banning, and finally to burning. Also, decide if you would restrict access to any books in a small collection of controversial works.
