New City Hall design Open House

Time:   10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Date: 9/30/2008
Location: Baca Center
301 W. Bagdad Ave., Round Rock, Texas  78664 (Map)

Round Rock voters in 2001 approved bond funds for a new City Hall, and we are now in the early stages of the design process for that facility. We’ll have two opportunities on Tuesday, Sept. 30, for citizens and others interested in the project to begin giving us input on the project.

The project includes design of a “policy center” City Hall, which will be home to City Council chambers, administrative offices and public meeting space, as well as the “campus green” area surrounded by the new City Hall, Baca Center, an amphitheater and the McConico Building that makes up the municipal office campus in the southwest downtown area.

The project is currently in the programming phase. Programming is an architectural term for gathering information and talking to stakeholders about their ideas for the project.

The City Council has hired Barnes Gromatzky Kosarek Architects and Architecture Plus to design the building and campus green.

We’ll have a come-and-go Open House meeting from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and an Informational Workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. Both meetings will be at the Baca Center, 301 W. Bagdad Ave.

The Open House meeting will be less formal and less structured, with no formal oral presentation. Displays, exhibits and posters with images about the vision for both the building and the plaza will be on display. Citizens are invited to freely come and go, and participate by reviewing and commenting on the displays. There will be a large site plan on the floor with blocks representing the building and other elements. The architects will be available to answer questions and take down your thoughts on your vision for the project.

The Informational Workshop will kick off with a formal presentation by our architects, followed by the opportunities for interaction with the project team. The architectural team will make a presentation about the status of the project. They will outline the steps taken and open up the meeting to comments from citizens. You will have the opportunity to discuss your ideas and how this project can present your image of Round Rock. Again, there will be a large site plan on the floor with blocks representing the building and other elements.

For both meetings, the architects hope everyone will come and have fun, playing with what the project might look like.
