The Round Rock Public Library is happy to present the Central Texas SPCA’s Humane Education Program. The Humane Education Program teaches boys and girls between 8 and 12 years old about pet overpopulation issues and responsible pet ownership through interaction with friendly dogs from the Central Texas SPCA.

As part of the program, students learn computer skills by using Microsoft Word to write a recommendation for the animals they meet, Microsoft Excel to create a budget, and PowerPoint to create a presentation on what they've learned. They receive help with the software, grammar and punctuation.

The first session from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 21, covers responsible pet ownership. Students will read Are You Ready for Me? and write a recommendation in Microsoft Word for this class’ featured dog or puppy, and then create an Excel document outlining the monthly expenditures on food, shampoo, and pet supplies (non-vet expenses). They will use the Internet to search for cost information.

Pre-registration is required. Participants must be accompanied by an adult. Sign up at the Children’s Desk.

Participants can earn great rewards including certificates, t-shirts, and a book.
