The Round Rock Public Library presents the 2012-2013 season of Community Cinema, part of the Independent Lens Series. All screenings are free and open to the public.

January's film will be Soul Food Junkies by Byron Hurt at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 in Room B.

Soul Food lies at the heart of African American cultural identity. The black community’s love affair with soul food is deep-rooted, complex, and in some cases, deadly. Soul Food Junkies puts this culinary tradition under the microscope to examine both its significance and its consequences.

Toni Tipton-Martin is an Austin based food writer who recently published an historic reproduction of a 100-year-old cookbook, The Blue Grass Cook Book, by Minnie C. Fox. She is also a teacher of cooking, a journalist, and the founder of SANDE, a grassroots organization working to improve the lives of vulnerable children.

Naya Jones is the co-founder of Food for Black Thought, Director of the East Austin Food Project and a Facilitator and Public Speaker.
