City offers Christmas tree recycling

christmas treeThe City of Round Rock encourages residents to recycle their Christmas trees from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at the Round Rock Recycle Center, 310 Deepwood Drive.

Round Rock residents will get more than just a good feeling from recycling their Christmas trees. The City will give away small oak trees (while supplies last/one per vehicle) and provide volunteers to help unload trees for residents who bring their Christmas trees for recycling during these special events.

Additionally, residents may bring their Christmas trees for recycling to the Recycle Center during any regular operating day.

Residents must remove all decorations, nails, wires, ornaments, tree stands, lights, and tinsel before bringing in their tree to the recycling center. The trees will be shredded into a fine, usable mulch which is free to Round Rock residents for pickup at the recycling center. The mulch can also be purchased by contractors and non-residents for $5 per cubic yard.

The center is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday. The center is closed on Sundays.

Local businesses can also drop off their Christmas trees. For a small fee ($15 per truckload), businesses that sell Christmas trees can recycle their leftovers as well.
