The Rocky is an award we bestow on those who promote Round Rock -- sometimes unwittingly -- on the web.
We created it as a way to recognize those who pull for the underdog -- yeah, even though we're 100,000-plus population, winner of countless awards and accolades, we still think of ourself as the little guy.
It is also, of course, a shameless and blatant attempt to drive traffic to our sites and generate buzz about our social media bonafides.
Rocky award winners
Grant M - Starting in December 2010, Grant (AKA Gravitar) began modeling buildings in Round Rock, specifically, downtown Round Rock, and publishing the models into Google Earth.
He has already had over 35 models accepted to Google Earth.
Congrats to Grant M for being a model citizen. =pView Larger Map
Alison Shuman Masis - On Jan. 19, 2011, Alison posted a blog entitled Downtown Round Rock: A Glance through Photographs. A major heading of her post was "Downtown Round Rock: There IS such a thing" where she noted, "Even on a cold day (cold for Texas – 40 degrees!), the downtown area was packed and bustling."
Her photos of downtown in the post are beautiful and her closing remarks sum things up nicely, "If you are considering moving to Round Rock, or already live in the area, remember to visit downtown and help keep the local merchants and businesses hopping. You don’t need to drive out into the country to get a little small-town flavor!"
Thanks to Alison for promoting our downtown!
@omarg - On December 8, 2010, Omar reminded social media behemoth @mashable that Dell world headquarters is located in Round Rock, TX - not Austin. Not only did he send out a tweet about the oversight, he also followed up on their blog. Nice work Omar!
