The function of the Sports Management and Tourism Department is to program, schedule and maintain the City’s sports facility assets and to implement the City’s long-term Tourism Plan.
Our Sports Management Division is responsible for operation of the Round Rock Sports Center and Round Rock Multipurpose Complex, and is also tasked with managerial oversight and capital improvements of Dell Diamond and Forest Creek Golf Club.
Our Tourism Division, comprised of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, promotes the “Go Round Rock” brand, maintaining our Sports Capital of Texas legacy through bidding to host regional and national championship sports events every year. The CVB also works with local hotels, convention centers and meeting spaces to attract business tourism to the area. This focus on tourism boosts economic development in the community without additional tax burden on citizens.
The Round Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau is here to spread the word … Go Round Rock! From the top-notch sports facilities and hotels, to meeting spaces, restaurants and entertainment, the CVB promotes economic diversity by developing the growing tourism industry in Round Rock.
Revenue generated by visitors to Round Rock supports local businesses, while sales and hotel taxes boost the city budget for various types of projects, such as road improvements that benefit residents.
The Round Rock Sports Center opened in January 2014 and has since been the host of numerous sporting events as well as banquets, wedding expos, corporate meetings and other events that bring visitors to the Round Rock area. The local community uses the Sports Center for club sports team practices, leagues and tournaments.
The facility boasts 82,800 square feet of indoor space with 47,775 square feet of flexible, open, playable space. The fields are comprised of two championship fields, one natural grass field, and one synthetic turf field with shaded bleacher seating. In addition, there are eight multipurpose fields, four of which are natural grass and other four are synthetic turf. This state-of-the-art facility also features spectator parking, Musco sports lighting, a clubhouse for hosting meetings and team functions, guest amenities, playscapes, and more!
The City-owned Dell Diamond is home of the Round Rock Express, the Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, and has been consistently recognized as one of the best minor league stadiums in the country since its opening in 2000.
Round Rock voters in 1998 approved using hotel-motel tax revenue to fund $8.25 million of the stadium construction costs. Ryan Sanders Sports, owner of the Express, paid the balance in costs for the stadium’s construction. The ballpark is operated by Ryan Sanders Sports through a lease agreement with the City.
The newly-renovated Forest Creek Golf Club provides Hill Country golf at its finest. This 7,147 yard par-72 golf course has been nationally recognized as one of the finest public golf courses in Central Texas. Facility amenities include a full service grill, event center and an outstanding practice range enhanced by a putting green and short-game complex.
