Due to forecasted inclement weather, City of Round Rock offices will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 16.
Garbage and recycling pickup will be pushed back a day the rest of the week. So if your regular pickup day was Tuesday, it will be picked up Wednesday; Wednesday pickup will occur on Thursday, etc.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Warning for most of the northern part of South Central Texas, including Round Rock, from midnight Monday night, Jan. 15, through late Tuesday afternoon. According to the Monday afternoon NWS forecast: “Ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch are expected and significant travel impacts are possible during the day on Tuesday not just on bridges and overpasses, but also on surface streets due to the cold temperatures. There is a chance for ice accumulations up to 1/4 inch across the Hill Country.”
City crews have been working Monday to pretreat bridges, and are prepared to work through the night, if necessary. Deicing materials and sanders will be deployed as conditions warrant.
The City strongly recommends residents and businesses turn off their irrigation/sprinkler systems to avoid damage and freezing due to the cold temperatures that are being forecast. Runoff from sprinklers causes hazardous conditions on roadways.
City utility customers with water or wastewater issues should call 512-218-5555 and follow the prompts provided.
CapMetro and Star Shuttle transit services are cancelled Tuesday.
Now is a good time to make sure you are prepared for the hazards a winter storm can bring. FEMA has a great deal of information here. Please make sure you take care of people, pets, pipes and plants.
The City also recommends going to WarnCentralTexas.org to sign-up for emergency alerts if you have not already done so.
