Film Friendly Texas Community

The City of Round Rock is a Texas Friendly Film Community.

The Texas Film Commission’s Film Friendly Texas program connects media industry professionals with skilled community liaisons across the state to provide local expertise and production support. Participation in the FFTX program provides Texas communities with a network for fostering media production in their municipalities and sends a clear message to media industry professionals that Film Friendly certified communities are serious about attracting their business.  https://gov.texas.gov/film/page/fftx_overview 

With an emphasis on working with Texas’ rural and suburban communities, the Film Friendly Texas program provides an elevated platform for statewide certified communities to market their unique attributes and resources directly to media industry professionals working in Texas. 

City of Round Rock Texas Friendly Film Community Examples: Commercials, episodic television, feature films.  Prior to filing an application for film industry permit in Round Rock, the Office of the City Manager must be contacted to discuss the production’s specific filming requirements and the feasibility of filming in Round Rock, Texas.  Reimbursement for use of City of property is required.

Dozens of films and TV shows, from small indie passion projects to blockbusters with budgets in the hundreds of millions of dollars have been shot in and around Round Rock, Pflugerville and Hutto. “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” 
Year released: 1974

Production notes: The original location of the film’s shoot was on Quick Hill Road just outside of Round Rock, south of where SH 45 N is today. The house used for the shoot has since been restored and moved to Kingsland. 

“Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”

Production notes: The shoot used nearby Cele Store in Manor as the location of a fight scene between Duvall and some locals. Janice Fuchs, who has worked at the store for 38 years after her parents bought it, said her father, who owned the store at the time, was an extra. The movie used a nearby farmhouse as the exterior for the character’s main residence. 

“Friday Night Lights”

Production notes: The Pflugerville Panthers’ football field served as the backdrop for the fictional Dillon Panthers in the pilot. The location moved to Del Valle when the real Panthers needed the field for practice. The show also incorporated game footage from the local team into the show.
