The Round Rock Public Library and Austin SCORE will be offering a series of free workshops for entrepreneurs and small business owners on Fridays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., through October 26. SCORE is a nonprofit dedicated to helping small businesses and entrepreneurs start, develop and maintain their businesses.

These free timely workshops, presented by recognized experts and practitioners, will cover a variety of issues facing small business owners and entrepreneurs including finances, marketing, and strategic planning.

Join us on Friday, Oct. 5 for Get People Talking: Making Online Reviews Work for Your Business. 92% of consumers read online reviews. What does that mean for your business? Great online reviews don’t happen on accident. Bad online reviews can be prevented. Learn how to create and manage a successful online review program as a marketing tactic for your business. In this program, we’ll discuss why collecting reviews is important; how the online marketing loop works and how reviews complete that loop; the three R’s of a success online review program for your business; and what to do when you get a bad review.

About the Presenter

These free timely workshops, presented by recognized experts and practitioners, will cover a variety of issues facing small business owners and entrepreneurs including finances, marketing, and strategic planning. 

Join us on Friday, Sept. 28 for Business Taxes Update for 2018. Preparation of business tax returns can be very complex in light of the ever-changing tax laws, especially the Tax Cuts and Job Act of 2017. Gain familiarity with the tax forms, due dates and financial information required to accurately complete various business tax returns. Reduce your stress and frustrations by understanding what is needed before you start.

This workshop will also give you the key to understanding that tax is a good thing!

This workshop will help participants:

  • Understand the effects of the Tax Cuts and Job Act of 2017 including an overview of the new QBI deduction for business owners and the new tax brackets
  • Identify the types of tax forms to be completed for various types of business entities
  • Be familiar with the filing dates for both federal and state tax return filings
  • Be acquainted with income tax jargon and concepts including self-employment tax
  • Understand the interrelationship of the business owner and the business entity and how the taxes due are ultimately calculated

Lisa Bargsley, CPA, MBAAbout the Presenter

For more than twenty-five years, Lisa Bargsley, CPA, MBA, has worked and consulted with business owners and entrepreneurs on business systems management, work life balance, and federal income tax requirements. Currently, Lisa owns Lisa Bargsley, CPA which provides tax, accounting and consulting services to business owners and individuals. She is responsible for leading the vision and strategic planning process, long-term and short-term management decisions, client development, retention and service strategies. Lisa’s passion is to work with people to help them understand tax and accounting theory as it relates to their business or personal circumstances. Lisa approaches teaching business concepts by asking her students to play with her, to have fun and to laugh.

Join us on Friday, Sept. 21 for Digital Marketing Made Easy! Are you overwhelmed with the possibilities and the workload of implementing Digital Marketing? At this workshop, we will boil it down to the basics, so you can learn what it can do for your business and have a starting place. This workshop covers:

  1. An overview of the Digital Marketing Universe. (Web site, social media, pay per click, email campaigns, SEO, Google Analytics)
  2. Key to success: Before you begin—set goals and define brand
  3. Why is digital marketing more like a science than traditional marketing?
  4. Quick look at a sample digital marketing plan
  5. Is your web site ready because all digital media will be directed here.
  6. Starting budget—there is good news here!
  7. Which tools should you choose (Two to three)? Which one depends on who you are and what your business is
  8. Implementation of your plan.
  9. Measurement and Optimization. How did your science experiment turn out?
  10. Go it alone, get coaching, or hire out depending on time available, budget, and your personal interest in developing this skill

About the Presenter

Kathy Schwartz has a branding and digital marketing company based in Austin and Houston: KMS Communications LLC. She also coaches clients. Before that, she owned a small business for almost a decade. Kathy was a business professor at Austin Community College and their Marketing Director, and was Vice President of Strategy and Branding for a local Fin Tech.
