Family Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest

The Round Rock Public Library is hosting a family Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest that begins on Friday, October 23, 2020, and lasts through noon on Friday, October 30, 2020.

Families are invited to decorate a pumpkin (or gourd) as a book character or with a literary theme and drop it off at the Round Rock Public Library children’s desk for display from October 23 – October 29. Library staff will announce the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place pumpkins on Friday, November 6, 2020. The winners will receive a Barnes and Noble gift card!

Contest Rules:

  • One pumpkin entry per family may be entered into the contest. Pumpkin submissions must be based on a book and/or book character. 
  • The library cannot accept carved pumpkin submissions. Only painted and/or decorated whole pumpkin submissions may be entered into the contest.
  • Submissions will not be accepted before Friday, October 23, 2020, at 10 am.
  • All contest submissions must be accompanied by a Pumpkin Entry Form – 2020.
  • Contest submissions must be turned into library staff by Wednesday, October 29, 2020, at 5 pm. Late pumpkin submissions will not be accepted.
  • Winning families will receive a Barnes and Noble gift card: 1st place $30, 2nd place $20, and 3rd place $10.
  • All pumpkins must be picked up by Saturday, October 31, 2020, at 5 pm. Pumpkins that are not picked up by this time will be disposed of.

Library Top Chef Contest (ages 6 -18)

The Round Rock Public Library is accepting entries to the Virtual Library Top Chef Contest. Young chefs, ages 6-18, may submit an original book themed recipe. The contest will be open from Monday, June 1, 2020 – Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at 5:00 pm.

Contest guidelines:

  • Chefs, ages 6-18, may enter one original recipe.
  • The recipe must be related to, or based on, a book’s characters, title, or plot. 
  • The recipe must be submitted with a picture of the completed dish.
  • Previously published recipes will not be accepted.
  • Entries must be received before Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at 5:00 pm.

How to enter the contest: 

  • Read the contest guidelines. 
  • Create and name your recipe. Take a picture of the finished dish.
  • Save your recipe in a Word or Google document. In the e-mail message please include: chef’s name, parent or guardian’s name, chef’s age, the title of the book the recipe is based on, a picture of the completed recipe and an e-mail address and/or phone number. Attach the file and email it to: Amy German at amygerman@roundrocktexas.gov.

Prizes will be awarded to the top recipe in each age group.  Recipes will be judged by the library’s Teen Advisory Board.

  • ages 6-8: Top recipe maker will receive a $20 Gift Card to HEB
  • ages 9-12: Top recipe maker will receive a $20 Gift Card to HEB
  • ages 13-18: Top recipe maker will receive a $20 Gift Card to HEB

Decorate a pumpkin (or gourd) as a book character or with a literary theme and drop it off at the Round Rock Public Library children’s desk for display from October 24 – October 31. Library staff will vote for the best literary pumpkins on Thursday, October 31, 2019. The winners will receive a Barnes and Noble gift card!

Contest Rules:

  • One winner will be chosen from each of the following age categories: young kids (ages 7 and under) & tweens (ages 8-12).
  • All pumpkins must be picked up by noon Friday, November 1, 2019 at 6 pm. Pumpkins that are not picked up by this time will be disposed of.
