Public invited to envision City’s long-term future

The City of Round Rock is welcoming the public to envision Round Rock’s long-term future as staff develops its new Comprehensive Plan, Round Rock 2030. Previously known as a “General Plan,” this long-range document will serve as the policy guide and framework for land use decisions for the next decade. The plan will highlight how the City has changed over the past decade and create a vision for what Round Rock might look like in the year 2030. This planning process is expected to take approximately 1.5 years, with adoption in spring 2020.

What kind of information will be included in Round Rock 2030?

Round Rock 2030 will be broad in scope, allowing for flexibility while providing a basis for policy and zoning decisions. The plan will cover development issues across the city, identifying areas that are most suitable or unsuitable for certain types of development, and establishing policies that will help leaders implement the vision set out in the plan. This plan is created to fit in with the City’s other long-range plans, the City Council’s Strategic Plan, and department-specific master plans, such as the Transportation Master Plan.

Public engagement

In order for Round Rock 2030 to be successful, it should reflect the needs and wants of our residents and businesses. By participating in Round Rock 2030, you’ll have the chance to influence policy that guides Round Rock’s decisions regarding public facilities, commercial development, housing and more.

Public meetings will be held for residents to give feedback during February-March 2019. All meetings are open to the public and will include the same presentation; however, each meeting is assigned a geographical quadrant of town. Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting associated with the area of town where they live. The meeting will be formal presentation style, with opportunities for attendees to participate in an interactive poll using their cell phones. Please note that, due to record turnout at the first public meeting, all future meetings will be held at the Baca Center Dining Room at 301 W. Bagdad Ave.
