This free, fun activity is part of a monthly series of programs made available through a partnership with Stars Of Texas Homeschoolers. Look for more fun at Round Rock Public Library on the third Monday of every month.

Chess Club at the Library (ages 10-18)

King, Pawn, Rook, Castling, Checkmate, Stalemate! Do you know what these words mean? Do you like to play chess?  Looking to learn how to play?  If you answered yes, then this club is for you!

Tweens and teens, join us for come-and-go playing opportunities in meeting room B:

Tween Escape Room: The Lost Mummy (ages 8-12) (preregistration)

Join us at 4:30 pm in Meeting Room B for a Tween Escape Room: The Lost Mummy. Participants must solve puzzles, decode clues, and problem-solve with their team to “breakout and unlock” various puzzles associated with an Ancient Egyptian theme.  

Please Note: 
This program is for children ages 8-12 only. Limited seating for caregivers and younger siblings who wish to observe will be available in the back of the room. Only attending participants must preregister. Online registration is required and starts Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 9 am. Those who arrive more than five minutes late may forfeit their space(s). If you cannot attend, please cancel your reservation via Eventbrite or call 512-218-3275.

Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest at the Library

The Round Rock Public Library is hosting a Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest that begins on Thursday, October 24, 2019 and lasts through noon on Thursday, October 31, 2019.

Decorate a pumpkin (or gourd) as a book character or with a literary theme and drop it off at the Round Rock Public Library children’s desk for display from October 24 – October 31. Library staff will vote for the best literary pumpkins on Thursday, October 31, 2019. The winners will receive a Barnes and Noble gift card!

Contest Rules:

  • The library cannot accept carved pumpkin submissions. Only painted and/or decorated whole pumpkin submissions may be entered into the contest.
  • Submissions will not be accepted before Thursday, October 24, 2018 at 9 am.
  • All contest submissions must be accompanied by a Pumpkin Entry Form.
  • Contest submissions must be turned into library staff by Thursday, October 31, 2018 at noon. Late pumpkin submissions will not be accepted.
  • One winner will be chosen from each of the following age categories: young kids (ages 7 and under) & tweens (ages 8-12).
  • All pumpkins must be picked up by noon Friday, November 1, 2019 at 6 pm. Pumpkins that are not picked up by this time will be disposed of.

Tween Maker Club: light up halloween art (ages 8-12) (preregistration)

The Round Rock Public Library will host a Tween Maker Club session for kids ages 8-12. Combine creativity and circuitry to make your own spooky Halloween art that lights up using copper tape, batteries, and LEDs.

Tween Maker Club: Tech Toy Petting Zoo (ages 8-12)

The Round Rock Public Library will host a Tech Toy Petting Zoo on Thursday, September 19, 2019 for kids ages 8-12 in meeting room B from 4:30 – 5:30 pm.

Experiment with technology at this come-and-go event designed for young engineers. Program a Dash & Dot robot and a Sphero SPRK+ robot.  Learn to code with Ozobots and LEGO Robotics.  Customize a Cubelet robot, or explore electronics with Little Bits and/or Squishy Circuits.
