Harry Potter Holiday Party (ages 8-18) (preregistration)

The Round Rock Public Library meeting room is transforming into Hogwarts on Thursday, December 19, 2019 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. Celebrate all things Harry Potter with:

  • Costume Contest  – Dress as your favorite Harry Potter character and help your team win the House Cup! 
  • Potions Class with Mad Science of Austin
  • Harry Potter Games
  • Harry Potter trivia
  • Harry Potter crafts
  • and more!

Bring canned goods to donate to the Gringotts Wizarding “Food” Bank. Donations will benefit the Round Rock Serving Center.  We will also be accepting donations of new or gently used children’s books to benefit all the muggle children who take part in our Summer Reading Program at Flourish & Blotts Book Shop in Diagon Ally (located in Meeting Room C).

Homeschool Winter Holidays

Come explore different winter holidays by picking a country and researching how they celebrate Christmas or a winter holiday.  Present your project to the group!  We will also have games and activities for the kids.

This free, fun activity is part of a monthly series of programs made available through a partnership with Stars Of Texas Homeschoolers. Look for more fun at Round Rock Public Library on the third Monday of every month.

We’ll gather from 12:30 – 2:00 pm in Meeting Room B. Please bring a shareable dish/snack and a gift worth under $5 for a gift exchange game.

Tween Scratch Programming with Fun 2 Learn Code (ages 8-12) (preregistration)

The Round Rock Public Library and Fun 2 Learn Code will host Scratch computer programming classes for tweens (age 8-12) in the library computer lab. Kids will build a fun racing game as they learn to code using Scratch, a visual programming language for kids designed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  

Three identical introductory classes will be held. Please sign-up for one session:

  • Wednesday, October 23, 2019 from 4:30 – 5:30 pm
  • Wednesday, November 6, 2019 from 4:30 – 5:30 pm
  • Wednesday, December 4, 2019 from 4:30 – 5:30 pm

Family Construction Play Zone

Head over to the Round Rock Public Library for some collaborative construction as we bring out the Library’s large collections of LEGOs, Keva Planks, SmartMax magnet sets, and a variety of blocks for the entire family to enjoy.

It’s free, come-and-go constructive fun, 9:30 – 11 a.m. This activity is best enjoyed by children who are at least 1 year old. It replaces our regular morning programs, Babytime, Toddlertime, and Preschool Storytime.

Tween LEGO Robotics (ages 8-12) (preregistration)

Join us at 4:30 pm in Meeting Room B to build and explore with LEGO® WeDo robotic kits. Participants will build a Smart Spinner, a spinner mechanism that is motorized to spin a top and release it, while using a motion sensor to turn the motor on and off. Who has the longest spinning spinner? Preregister for this program to find out!

This program is for children ages 8-12 only. Limited seating for caregivers and younger siblings who wish to observe will be available in the back of the room. Tween Escape Room: The Lost Mummy (ages 8-12) (preregistration)

Join us at 4:30 pm in Meeting Room B for a Tween Escape Room: The Lost Mummy. Participants must solve puzzles, decode clues, and problem-solve with their team to “breakout and unlock” various puzzles associated with an Ancient Egyptian theme.

Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest at the Library

The Round Rock Public Library is hosting a Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest that begins on Thursday, October 24, 2019 and lasts through noon on Thursday, October 31, 2019.

Decorate a pumpkin (or gourd) as a book character or with a literary theme and drop it off at the Round Rock Public Library children’s desk for display from October 24 – October 31. Library staff will vote for the best literary pumpkins on Thursday, October 31, 2019. The winners will receive a Barnes and Noble gift card!

Contest Rules:

  • The library cannot accept carved pumpkin submissions. Only painted and/or decorated whole pumpkin submissions may be entered into the contest.
  • Submissions will not be accepted before Thursday, October 24, 2018 at 9 am.
  • All contest submissions must be accompanied by a Pumpkin Entry Form – 2019.
  • Contest submissions must be turned into library staff by Thursday, October 31, 2019 at noon. Late pumpkin submissions will not be accepted.
  • One winner will be chosen from each of the following age categories: young kids (ages 7 and under) & tweens (ages 8-12).
  • All pumpkins must be picked up by noon Friday, November 1, 2019 at 6 pm. Pumpkins that are not picked up by this time will be disposed of.
