Round Rock native leads nation in rushing, gains award recognitions

Viewers of college football nationwide have become familiar with Cam Cook, and we’re proud to call him a Round Rock native.

The 2023 Stony Point High School graduate led the country in rushing as a junior for Division I Football Bowl Subdivision program Jacksonville State. The Round Rock native led the FBS in rushing at 131.8 yards per game and all-purpose yards at 153.67 per game.

Nationwide recognition continued with Cook being named a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award, given to the nation’s best running back, and a mid-season watch list addition for the Maxwell Award, presented annually to the college football player of the year.

Cook was one of only 10 players named semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award, and among only 13 named to the Maxwell watch list.

Thursday, Cook was named a finalist for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, presented to the top Division I offensive football player with a tie to Texas. The Tyler Rose Award winner will be announced in late December.

He won the Conference USA Most Valuable Player award and was named conference Newcomer of the Year.
