Round Rock Police make same-day arrest in armed jewelry store robbery

Around 4:12 p.m. April 8, Round Rock Police officers responded to a robbery at QT Jewelry store in the La Frontera shopping area. Witnesses reported that two male suspects wearing dark clothing, entered the business, displayed a gun and demanded everything in the store.  The storeowner shot at the suspects several times and the suspects fled the scene. Despite a coordinated search, including air support from the Austin Police Department, the suspects were not apprehended.

Around 9:50 p.m. the same evening, officers responded to a call from a female reporting that two Hispanic males wearing dark clothing had just robbed her at gunpoint.

Officers conducted a search of the area and were able to locate the suspects in another apartment complex about a mile away.

The two male suspects, Brandon Maldonado and Alexander Mejicano, were arrested and property from the female victim was recovered. During the interview with Round Rock detectives, the suspects confessed they were responsible for the QT Jewelry store robbery earlier in the day.
