Smart911 service available to Round Rock residents

Smart911_720x300_1_LargerOn June 23, 2016, the Round Rock Police Department announced that Smart911 is available to all individuals and families in the city limits. Smart911 is a free service that allows individuals to create a Safety Profile for their household that can include any information they may want 9-1-1 call takers and first-responders to have in the event of an emergency. Then, if they call 9-1-1, their Safety Profile will immediately be displayed for call-takers – potentially saving critical seconds and even minutes in response to the emergency. Visit Smart911.com to sign up.

Smart911 allows first-responders to learn many important details before arriving to a scene. Police can gain quick access to photos of missing children, fire crews can arrive at a house already knowing the floor plan of a home and EMS can be advised of residents’ allergies or specific medical conditions.

“Safety Profiles can fill in the gaps when the callers cannot,” said Leigh Carrico, Public Safety Communications Manager. “Along with providing important emergency contact information, Smart911 allows you to choose to link your cell phone to your home address – giving the 911 call center a starting point for an emergency call initiated from a cell phone.”

With Smart911, citizens can choose to provide such information as pets in the home, vehicle details in the event of an accident, and even emergency contacts can be included in a Safety Profile. All information is optional, and the citizen has the ability to choose what details they would like to include.

Citizens are encouraged to create their Safety Profile at www.Smart911.com today to have their information immediately available to 9-1-1 and to receive emergency notifications. Smart911 is private and secure, is only used for emergency responses, and it is only made available to the 9-1-1 system in the event of an emergency call. Smart911 is currently available in 40 states and more than 1,500 municipalities across the country, and has been credited with positively impacting emergency outcomes.
