Train derails Monday morning

The Round Rock Fire Department responded to a train derailment along McNeil Road early Monday morning.

Crews responded to the call at approximately 2:13 a.m. in the 4100 block of McNeil Road. The six responding units found that two cars had derailed due to a malfunction in equipment and dumped their loads of construction aggregate. Although the initial call reported a possible diesel spill, the six responding units found no evidence of a leak.

One of the train’s locomotives, which was pulling a total of 70 cars, was smoking due overheated oil. It was safely shut down and no injuries were reported as a result of the derailment.

A damage estimate is still being researched at this time.
