The Round Rock City Council on Thursday approved an agreement with Ascension Seton to place a fire station adjacent to hospital land.
Fire Station 11 will be constructed at the intersection of University Boulevard and Seton Parkway, next to Ascension Seton Williamson. City Council agreed Thursday to purchase 2.45 acres from Ascension Seton for $489,078.
The purchase of this land will allow the fire department to improve response times in the fast-growing northeast portion of town.
Fire Station 11 is one of three new fire station buildings approved by voters in the May 2023 bond election, which included $44 million in public safety-related projects.
Construction on Station 10 began in June at 4380 E. Old Settlers Blvd., with an expected 2026 completion. The 2023 bond also called for the repurposing of Fire Station 1, keeping administrative functions at the City’s Central Fire Station, with fire response personnel alone operating out of a new Station 1, located at 1730 E. Old Settlers Blvd.
The design for Fire Station No. 11 will be a four-bay station previously utilized in the construction of Fire Station No. 10, a cost-saving model used to standardize construction and reduce architectural expenses. Station 11 will however include a satellite office for the Round Rock Police Department, allowing officers another location to complete necessary paperwork and other duties in the field.
City Council in June approved an agreement with McKinney York Architects for architectural and design services related to Fire Station 11. McKinney York provided similar services for fire stations 1, 3 and 10.
Council has not yet voted on a contract to construct Fire Station 11 but construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
