The Round Rock City Council approved the City’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) 2026-2027 Annual Action Plan at the regularly scheduled July 9 meeting.
The funding is provided through the City’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). These funds can be used for a wide range of housing, community and economic development activities and services, primarily for low- to moderate-income households. The City expects to receive $641,705 in the coming program year for CDBG activities.
The Annual Action Plan for Oct. 1, 2026 through Sept. 30, 2027 includes funding for:
- Home Repair Program: $417,109
- Round Rock Area Serving Center (RRASC) Food Pantry: $30,000
- Round Rock Area Serving Center (RRASC) Housing Assistance: $30,000
- Opportunities for Williamson-Burnet Counties (OWBC) Meals on Wheels Program: $20,000
- Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA): $16,255
- Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program Administration: $128,341
Recent Community Development Block Grant projects in the City of Round Rock include:
- Construction of new sidewalks in the Chisholm Valley Neighborhood
- Purchase and installation of playgrounds at Bowman Park, Greenhill Park and Settlement Park
- Rehabilitation of homes for low to moderate income residents
- Funding for CASA, Round Rock Area Serving Center and Meals on Wheels
- Purchase and installation of bus shelters in low to moderate income areas
The City hosted a public hearing on the plan in March and received applications from social service agencies from mid-February to mid-March. Applications are subject to risk analysis and staff review before City staff provides its recommendations to City Council for approval.
Projects must serve low-income individuals or low- to moderate-income areas as designated by the U.S. Census.
The City received $672,184 and $642,233, respectively, in CDBG funding the previous two program years. In addition to the federal funds allocated to public service agencies, the City of Round Rock has provided additional funding to local area non-profits through its annual budgeting process in past years.
