Together with area nonprofits, the City of Round Rock will provide more than $600,000 to support social and infrastructural issues throughout town in the upcoming program year through a federal community development program.
Round Rock City Council on July 9 unanimously approved the City’s Community Development Block Grant 2026-27 Annual Action Plan, which totals $641,705. The plan must be submitted annually to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for the City to receive CDBG Block Grant funding.
The plan sets aside:
- $30,000 for Round Rock Area Serving Center’s food pantry program
- $30,000 for Round Rock Area Serving Center’s housing assistance program
- $16,255 for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) to assist with abused or neglected children
- $20,000 for Opportunities for Williamson-Burnet Counties’ Meals on Wheels program, which provides food for the homebound
- $417,109 for the City of Round Rock Community and Neighborhood Services Home Repair Program
- $128,341 for program administration of the program.
The City has recently used CDBG funding for installation of playgrounds at Bowman Park, Greenhill Park and Settlement Park.
CASA, Meals on Wheels and Round Rock Area Serving Center each received CDBG funding through the City last year as well.
The City hosted a public hearing on the plan in March and received applications from social service agencies from mid-February to mid-March. Applications are subject to risk analysis and staff review before City staff provides its recommendations to City Council for approval.
Projects must serve low-income individuals or low- to moderate-income areas as designated by the U.S. Census.
The 2026-27 CDBG program year begins Oct. 1. The City received $672,184 and $642,233, respectively, in CDBG funding the previous two program years.
In addition to the federal funds allocated to public service agencies, the City of Round Rock provides an additional $250,000 from its general fund through its annual budgeting process. Round Rock is among a small number of Texas cities that supplement federal grant funds with local dollars to support social services at this scale.
