The Round Rock City Council on Oct. 23 approved an agreement with HydroPro Solutions, Inc. for the purchase of water utility meters and monitoring systems. The approval allows the City to begin replacing approximately 1,200 Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) water meters starting in November as part of regular system maintenance.
The meters scheduled for replacement are located throughout the city. While they continue to measure water use accurately, their automated communication components—which transmit readings electronically—are no longer functioning properly due to aging batteries. Replacing these units will help the City maintain its goal of a 99% automated read rate and prevent the need for manual readings or estimated bills.
The meter replacement project will take approximately two to three weeks to complete. Door hangers will be distributed the week of Nov. 3 to all affected addresses, and water service may be briefly interrupted (about 10–15 minutes) while meters are exchanged.
This effort supports the City’s ongoing commitment to maintaining high-quality infrastructure and ensuring customers continue to receive reliable, up-to-date information about their water use.
