Beloved Children’s Librarian Andrea Warkentin (Miss Andrea) is retiring after 15 years of service at the Round Rock Public Library. Her innovative programming and outstanding service for our families will be missed.
She has been an advocate for early literacy in our community by leading story times and engaging with families with preschool-aged children. Her enthusiasm for learning led her to work on a variety of projects, including the City of Round Rock’s Bee City USA program and Round Rock ISD’s RRock Ready early literacy initiative. She also demonstrated her love of science by taking the lead at three extremely popular solar eclipse events. (Please don’t ask Andrea if we have eclipse glasses!)
Andrea was also one of the primary caretakers of Rocksssanne, the library’s ball python, who retired in 2025. The care and kindness she gave to Rocksssanne served as a great example of the respect we should have for the natural world as well as for each other.
“Andrea has left her mark on the Youth Services division, the Library, and the whole city,” said Youth Services Manager Theresa Faris. “She has incredible energy and passion for serving kids and their families. We wish her well on her retirement journey, but she will be truly missed by her library family and her little fans.”
All are invited to attend a retirement celebration to say farewell to Ms. Andrea from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, March 5, Discovery Garden. Musician Staci Gray will perform. This event will take the place of Outdoor Storytime and Babytimes this day.
