Battle of the Badges on Sept. 24 benefits Round Rock Blue Santa

Round Rock police and firefighters will compete in a basketball game to raise funds for Round Rock Operation Blue Santa on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Round Rock Sports Center, 400 Chisholm Trail.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the game beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 or one new, unwrapped toy per person. Children ages 2 and younger are free.

Police Chief Allen Banks will be the honorary coach for the Police Department team and acting Assistant Fire Chief Shane Glasier will be the honorary coach for the Fire Department team. T-shirts will be for sale along with refreshments.

Round Rock Operation Blue Santa is a 501c(3) non-profit organization established in 1978 by volunteers and employees of the Round Rock Police, Fire, and Parks and Recreation Departments. Operation Blue Santa provides toys and food to families in need during Christmas. In the first year, fewer than twenty families were served and every subsequent year the number of families served has grown. Currently the needs of over 1,600 individuals are met. Operation Blue Santa is supported entirely by community donations (schools, individuals, and businesses).
