Each year, the Texas Floodplain Management Association (TFMA) selects an individual who has shown excellence in the field of floodplain management. TFMA has selected City Engineer Danny Halden as the recipient of this year’s Floodplain Manager of the Year Award.

This individual must demonstrate dedication through administration of his/her community’s floodplain management program in pursuing the goals of reducing flood losses and preventing loss of life. In 2014, Round Rock won TFMA’s City Floodplain Management Excellence Award.

Halden has been the City’s Floodplain Administrator for the past nine years, but has performed much of the City’s technical floodplain management work since his employment with the City began in 1987. As Floodplain Administrator, Halden ensures standards are met and life and property are appropriately protected from flooding. He has educated the community about the importance of floodplain insurance for more than two decades, often patiently explaining that regardless of what’s shown on a FIRM (Flood Insurance Rate Map), flood risk can still exist. He’s helped many homeowners understand why “my mortgage company made me purchase flood insurance.”

The City is fortunate to have such an experienced, dedicated Floodplain Administrator who serves tirelessly on behalf of its citizens.
