Google Fiber plans to expand to Round Rock

Google Fiber’s high-speed internet service will be coming to Round Rock, following a unanimous vote by City Council at its Thursday, Oct. 27 meeting.

The non-exclusive license agreement with Google Fiber will allow the company to install, maintain and operate a fiber optic network in the public right-of-way.

Round Rock will be the third large city in Texas to receive Google Fiber’s high-speed, high-bandwidth internet service, which offers one and two gigabit service to customers without data caps, equipment fees, annual contracts.

“We enjoy being on the cutting edge of technology here in Round Rock, so we are excited that Google Fiber has chosen our community for its next expansion,” Mayor Craig Morgan said. “We look forward to our residents and businesses having even more options for internet service.”

“Fast, reliable internet is essential for life today,” said John-Michael Cortez, Government and Community Affairs Manager for Google Fiber. “We’re looking forward to serving Round Rock and being a part of the city’s connected future.”

Google Fiber expects to begin construction by late 2023, with service becoming available to Round Rock customers as portions of the network are completed in their area. The company’s goal is to reach and access as many households as possible; Round Rock residents can sign up for availability updates at fiber.google.com.
