Update: Lane closures to shift on University Boulevard starting April 6

Update: Traffic on University Boulevard between Sunrise Road and University Oaks will move to the north two lanes at 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 6. This will allow crews to begin construction on the lanes on the south side of the road. This portion of the project is slated to be completed this spring.

Drivers on University Boulevard can expect increased delays in the coming months.

The widening project from IH-35 to Sunrise Boulevard will move to the next construction phase on the night of Sunday, July 18.

While crews focus on widening the north section of the roadway, four lanes of traffic will be maintained, except during construction at each of the intersections.

Each intersection along the project route will be completed with concrete – a new City standard. Intersections will be completed individually, each taking approximately one month. While under construction, only one eastbound lane through the intersection will be open.

This project phase will be completed in spring 2022, while the entire project will wrap up in early 2023.

Once completed, this section of University Boulevard will be a six-lane, median-divided urban arterial road. Dual-turn lanes at Oakmont Drive and University Oaks will also be constructed.

It is included in the City’s five-year, $240 million Driving Progress transportation plan that aims to improve roadway capacity and connectivity throughout the City.
