Memorial signage honoring fallen Officer Charles Whites

Drivers traveling along both the northbound and southbound lanes of I-35 within the Round Rock city limits will now see newly installed memorial signage honoring the life and service of fallen Officer Charles Whites.

After nearly four years of legislative efforts, coordination, and funding, the memorial signs were officially installed this month. On February 25, 2018, Officer Whites was critically injured when he was struck by an impaired driver while directing traffic at the scene of a fatal crash. Despite life-saving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on April 27, 2018.

“Officer Whites served this city with honor, courage, and compassion,” said Police Chief Allen Banks. “This memorial is a lasting tribute not only to his service but also to the risks our officers face every day in the line of duty.”

The installation was made possible through legislative action, city funding, and the support of both local and state officials. Now visible to thousands of motorists each day, the memorial signage stands as a lasting tribute to Officer Whites’ service, sacrifice, and dedication.

In addition to the highway signage, the Round Rock Police Department is currently constructing a permanent Police Officer Memorial at the front of its headquarters to honor City Marshal A.G. Hall and Officer Whites, both of whom were killed in the line of duty.
