In 2011, there were 10 motorcycles stolen in the City of Round Rock. Last year, the city saw 14 motorcycle thefts. With a little more than three months left in 2013, Round Rock Police have already seen a dozen such thefts. Nine of these thefts have occurred at apartment complexes.

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation and Sentry Insurance offer several tips for preventing motorcycle theft. Those tips include:

• Lock your ignition and remove the key. Most motorcycle thefts occur when the ignition is shut off but not locked.
• Lock the forks or disk brakes with locks that have large, brightly colored tags.
• Add an audible alarm to your motorcycle. In at least two of the Round Rock thefts this year, the motorcycle stolen did not have an audible alarm.
• Uniquely mark and then photograph your motorcycle. If thieves take your vehicle, note its unique markings to law enforcement using the photos you have taken.
• Keep your registration and insurance identification card on you when you ride.
