New Wyoming Springs extension in west Round Rock makes progress

The City of Round Rock’s Wyoming Springs Extension project is making strong progress, with construction slated to be finished by fall 2026.

Signal arms at the intersections of Creek Bend Boulevard and Wyoming Springs Drive, as well as Old Settlers Boulevard (FM 3406) and Wyoming Springs Drive, are anticipated to be installed within the coming weeks.

The Wyoming Springs extension has been in the City’s Transportation Master Plan since 1999 to improve overall connectivity in west Round Rock. City Council approved the design contract for the project in August 2019, just two years after the completion of the nearby Creekbend Boulevard extension over Brushy Creek. The Wyoming Springs Extension was designed to further reduce congestion by giving drivers another option and spreading traffic more evenly across the network.

The project extends Wyoming Springs Drive from Creekbend Boulevard to FM 3406, creating a new north-south route and an additional crossing over Brushy Creek. Currently, there are limited crossings in this area, which leads to increased traffic on nearby roads such as FM 3406, Sam Bass Road and RM 620 as drivers travel to and from I-35.

The project also included significant environmental considerations due to its location near the scenic Hairy Man Road corridor and Brushy Creek. Engineers carefully designed the roadway alignment to avoid as many trees as possible and worked with federal agencies to minimize impacts to the creek and surrounding environment. Based on community feedback, the design includes shared-use paths that will connect directly to the existing Brushy Creek Regional Trail in that area.

The total project cost is approximately $29.7 million and is funded through a combination of sales tax revenues, city-issued certificates of obligation bonds and Williamson County’s Road Bond program.
