Round Rock City Council on July 10 unanimously approved the latest development plans for a new residential construction project proposed just south of Downtown.
The Arte development by W.B. Property Group is a proposed mixed-residential project near the intersection of South Mays and East Logan streets. City Council in 2022 originally approved the mix of apartment units and townhomes for the 11.25-acre tract of land. At the time, developers were considering building 410 apartment units in apartments up to six stories tall, as well as 19 townhomes and a parking garage.
Following the approval of the development’s updated Planned Unit Development (PUD), the project includes a maximum of 350 apartment units in apartments up to five stories tall, and no more than a mix of six townhomes and duplex/single-family home structures, with surface parking.
Also, had the amendment been voted down, the previous plans, calling for more apartments and townhomes, would have remained in place.
The project will include two access points, with staff exploring adjustments to improve alignment with nearby streets for efficient traffic flow. Due to its proximity to creek property, City staff noted the project must abide by requirements from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
City leaders have set revitalization of Downtown as a long-term strategic priority backed by input from residents. Downtown implementation strategies outlined in City development plans include the facilitation of a mix of residential development types, to include a minimum of 1,000 housing units within a quarter-mile of Main Street.
