Police accepting applications for Victim Services volunteers

The Police Department Victim Services Unit is hosting a training academy for Victim Services volunteers in conjunction with the 29th Citizen’s Police Academy.

Victim Services volunteers are trained to respond to scenes on an “on call” basis to offer citizens emotional support and resources in the event of deaths, homicide, domestic violence, suicide, sexual assault, and public service calls.

Victim Services volunteers are caring individuals willing to share their time, knowledge, and insights in order to assist those touched by tragedy. Volunteers must be 21 or older, and successfully complete 30 hours of classroom instruction. Individuals begin the process of becoming a volunteer by completing an application. Applicants are then interviewed, and top applicants are invited to attend the training academy.
