Police respond to barricaded subject

At approximately 11:50 a.m. Monday, Round Rock Police responded to a report of a suicidal subject that reportedly rigged explosives to his residence in the 2300-block of Vernell Way. The call came in from family members who said they received a message from the individual.

As a precaution, a few dozen nearby residences were evacuated. Most of Sunrise Road and all roads within the Jester Farms neighborhood were shut down. The Allen R. Baca Center was set up for any evacuated individuals.

While investigating for potential explosive devices, a SWAT robot was sent into the residence and discovered an unresponsive adult male. Officers were able to enter the residence, confirm the subject was showing signs of life, and transport him to the hospital. He is currently in stable condition.

There were no other occupants of the house. At approximately 7:15 p.m., all devices were determined to not be a threat. The roads were reopened and residents were allowed to return to their homes.

Among the assisting agencies were Round Rock Fire Department, Williamson County EMS, APD Bomb Squad, FBI, ATF, Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Leander Police, and Central Texas Regional Swat team. Anyone facing suicidal thoughts should call 988 to be connected with the National Suicide Hotline and its many resources.
