Round Rock landed at ninth on Livability’s Top 100 Best Places to Live in the U.S. list this year, marking the third consecutive time the city has made the annual ranking.
Selected out of more than 2,000 cities from across the country, Round Rock was cited for its job opportunities, parks, safe neighborhoods, top schools and affordability in a desirable region of the U.S.
“Round Rock, TX, lures residents with its safe neighborhoods, award-winning park system, cute downtown district, top-notch health care options and plenty of job opportunities,” Livability wrote. “Plus, the living and housing costs are lower than those of many of its neighbors, including nearby Austin…”
The city’s “Sports Capital of Texas” moniker also drew note.
“Round Rock is known as the ‘Sports Capital of Texas’ for good reason,” Livability wrote. “The city is home to the AAA Pacific Coast League minor league baseball team Round Rock Express, a 25-field baseball complex, a five-field softball complex, a cricket field, a disc golf course, a soccer complex and the Rock’N River Family Aquatic Center.”
The report noted the median home value in Round Rock is $447,197 and the average household income is $102,841.
Livability analyzed more than 100 data points in eight categories:
- Economy and housing: Prioritizing affordability by comparing average rents and home prices to local incomes
- Amenities and environment: Measuring the “fun factor” alongside air quality and green space
- Safety, health and education: Evaluating vital infrastructure that keeps your family safe and supported
- Transportation: Looking for places where you spend less time in traffic and more time living
The 2026 algorithm gives extra weight to the Housing and Cost of Living category to reflect today’s economic climate.
